We are living in uncertain times. COVID-19. Cattle market crash. Stock market crash. Schools are closing, businesses are closing. Not enough tests. Thrust into homeschooling.
The fear and anxiety can seem crippling at times. Especially if you watch the news or read the headlines - am I right? But take heart, friends! The Almighty, Infinite, All-Knowing, All-Powerful, God of the universe who painted the gorgeous sunset out your door this evening... is not surprised by a virus.
He is not surprised by economic decline.
He is not surprised by school closings.
He is not surprised by empty store shelves.
He is not surprised by anything.
We can rest assured when we rest in HIM, that He is sufficient to care for all of our needs, today and tomorrow and forever.
In the book of Matthew, chapter six, Jesus urges us to trust in the Lord to supply all our needs. “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." - Matthew chapter 6: 25-34 (emphasis added)
I've heard it said that if the Lord repeats himself, we had better pay attention. Here, in just nine short verses, Jesus repeated himself FOUR TIMES.... DO NOT BE ANXIOUS. As we seek to lead our families in truth and peace through the current COVID-19 crisis, I encourage you to turn your face upon the One Who knows all and is all. Use this time to earnestly seek His face - even if you never before have even considered the idea. Ask the Lord to reveal Himself to you... and He will. God alone is faithful to give our hearts peace, our minds wisdom, our countenance joy, and our feet clear paths on which to walk. Rest in Him, dear friends. And rejoice!
